Opening Sentence, Continued

Still working on the opening sentence here, please bear with me:

A screaming comes across the studio.

It was a bright, cold day in April, and the muezzin was sounding the call to prayer.

It was a dark and stormy administration; Constitutional virtues fell in torrents — except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent surge of faux-populist saber rattling which swept up the Wall Street (for it is in America that our scene lies), rattling the Markets, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the Freedom that struggled against the darkness.
